Watering: try to form a trough around your plants to form a puddle so that when you water it doesn't just run off the top surface. Also, a deep drenching once a week is more beneficial to your plants than little and often. A drizzle won't sink into dry soil - it will just sit on the surface and then evaporate - dig some up and see for yourself. Also, water soaks into hoed soil but runs off compacted soil.
Water Taps & Butts: at this time of year, we can run out of water as the stream which feeds the top tanks sometimes stops running. However, more importantly is the taps being left open on the water butts which eventually drains ALL the top tanks and leaves everyone without water when we need it most. Please make sure you close the taps after you have used them and double check any other tanks you pass as you leave the plots. Also, if the public tank nearest yo is empty, then you are permitted to go to any other public tank which still has water. Please do not be tempted to help yourself from your neighbours water butt. Your neighbour will have stored precious water over the winter for his/her own use, not yours. Lesson: get your own water butt for your own plot so next summer you won't need to worry about water running out.
Plots available - July 2015: we have no plots available to rent at this time but we do run a waiting list and plots become available fairly often, especially in the spring at the start of teh new growing season. If you want to join the waiting list, please contact us via the phone number on our home page or contact page.

Best kept plot competition: judging will take place some time in July by independent judges. So, if you want a chance to win make sure your edges are neat, do some weeding and make your plot look as nice as possible. The Committee take no part in judging the best plots as we are all plot holders too!!

Grass borders / border bushes: you are responsible for the grass borders around your plot and for the safety of everyone walking near your plot. Keep the grass short so we can all see where the ground falls away. |
Watch the notice board: do make sure you check the noticeboard each time you visit the allotments for any updates, information, directions, rules /regs etc.
